I want to record a drum (snare) track with Compression recorded with it. I have the Y56k card as well. How would I do this so that the "Compression" is recorded with the track?

From what I understand, you can't do it. You'll need an outboard compressor to compress the signal before it hits the A/D converters. I was bummed when I was told this, because I wanted to be able to do a bit of compressing on some vocals while recording. I solved my problem rather inexpensively with an ART TPS tube preamp. It's not a compressor, but it does have output protection limiting. My vocal tracks have had no peaking problems since. Everything else I find I can compress to taste during mixdown.

OSNAVA15, I bought the BEHRINGER ULTRA VOICE DIGITAL VX2496 about 4 months ago, nice voice processor for the bucks ($160.00). Very pleased with it.

Can't you just bounce it?

I have an Alesis 3630 Compressor with a limiter/noisegate. Also a Presonus TubePre. Now, I've tried connecting the vocal mic to the compressor then to the aw and I got no signal. Is this because I need a pre before or after the compressor? If so, in theory, shouldn't my TubePre make this work?

Does the mic require phantom power? And, if so, is it on?

Is your phantom power turned on on your adub?
